Immaginazioni (Aug 2006 - ). This is a set of seven short pieces that are developed around a single melody and a temporal structure. Although the melody line is not heard in its entirety in any of the pieces, it is made up of pitches that represent the sequence
of harmonic centers in the set. The harmonic progressions within the single pieces are also derived from the (hidden) harmonization of the melody line. The temporal structure suggests the overall character of each piece (Improvviso, Denso, Penseroso, Incertando, Penseroso di nuovo, Climax, Ricapitolando), and it also serves as an outline for the dynamics-expressive profile within each piece, and for the structure of some of the shorter sections of each one. The temporal structure (or image) underlying the seven pieces is derived from a simple mathematical form (a damped sinusoidal function), which, using a free-hand drawing, takes the following form:
